Telangana is a state in southern India. Before Indian independence, it was a part of Hyderabad State Medak and Warangal Division which was ruled by Nizam. The Hyderabad state was dissolved as part of the linguistic reorganization of the states and the Telugu-speaking part of the Hyderabad state was known as Telangana.

On 2 June 2014, Telangana was created as the 29th state with Hyderabad as the city of Hyderabad. This state is surrounded by the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka in the northwest, Chhattisgarh, northeast and Odisha in the east. Telangana occupies an area of 114,840 square kilometers (44,340 sq mi) and is the largest state in India.
