Meghalaya i.e. the home of clouds is a state in Northeast India. The total area of Meghalaya is 22,429 sq.km. and one-third of the state is covered by mountainous forest. The total population of Meghalaya is 29,66,889 according to the 2011 census. The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong. This state is surrounded by Assam on the north and Bangladesh in the south.

Meghalaya is located in the north eastern part of India. A major part of the state's border lies in the north and eastern part of Assam. Meghalaya is in the south and western part with Bangladesh. 1200 cms every year. Meghalaya can be called the wettest state due to rainfall.
Meghalaya has several rivers including the Ganol, Umiam, Mingote, Mikhem and Dareng. Apart from these rivers, you can also find many other rivers like Umiam, Mawpa and Khari in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya initially had 7 districts but for the convenience of administration, 2 or 3 districts were also created from 1 district from time to time and thus Meghalaya now has 11 districts and from now on new district was formed in 2012, all these districts are hilly. But the most beautiful district here is Shillong, which is also the capital of the state.
